Sarkin Kano Enrolls at Northwest University, Kano
A major story currently trending on social media and in Nigerian news is the enrollment of the Sarkin Kano, Muhammadu Sanusi II, at Northwest University, Kano.
Reports say the traditional ruler has gained admission into the university’s Faculty of Law to study LL.B. Common Law and Sharia after meeting all admission requirements.
Many students and members of the public are discussing the development online, as it is rare to see a prominent traditional ruler return to university education at this stage of life.
Student and youth groups in Kano are also making headlines for their efforts to address social problems on campuses.
The Coalition of Northern Groups Students’ Wing (CNG-SW) recently organized a one-day lecture at Sa’adatu Rimi College of Education, Kano.
During the event, students were encouraged to stay away from drug abuse, violence, hate speech, and other negative behaviors. Speakers also stressed the importance of unity, good leadership, and moral values among students.
The National Association of Northern Nigerian Students (NANNS) has continued its campus campaigns aimed at youth development. In partnership with the PRNigeria Centre, the association has been promoting entrepreneurship, skills acquisition, and awareness against drug abuse, cultism, and violence in universities across Northern Nigeria.
Although these programs started earlier, they remain important as student leaders push for safer and more productive learning environments.
Across Nigerian campuses, students are increasingly involved in academic and creative activities such as debating competitions and educational festivals.
Student unions, including the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS), also continue to organize events that promote patriotism, productivity, and youth empowerment.
